New Years Fireworks Melbourne 2012

New Years Fireworks Melbourne 2012

Sydney is probably the most famous place to spend New Years for travellers visiting Australia, but this year at least, Melbourne put on the biggest fireworks show - 10 Tonnes of fireworks in part of a $2.6 million celebration.

What makes this fireworks show special is that the fireworks are launched from the rooftops of skyscrapers right around the city in a synchronised way, so the sound echoes around you and there's light everywhere!

Adding to this years excitement, the spire of the Arts Centre, a famous Melbourne landmark caught fire. Thankfully nobody was hurt. Despite the color, it was a fairly quiet start to the new year for me - but all went as planned and my timelapse project for Melbourne has started with a burst of color! 2012: A great year for traveling the world! Happy New Years!

Hi Holger, Your new blog/website looks good, what a great photo to kick off the new year! Your photographs and timelapses are a treat to look at, and I'm looking forward to seeing more of both this coming year. It was great to meet and travel with you this year, hope we'll cross paths again later :) Happy New Year! - Lily

Thanks Lily! Still finding my way around wordpress, but its getting there! Still waiting for about 500 files from this fireworks show to export for the timelapse version. It was a pretty spectacular show! Happy New Year!

you're already in 2012, lucky you!!

Almost sunrise here & I'm still waiting for a video to render! Enjoy the rest of 2011!

Great photo of the fireworks! I studied in Sydney and regret the fact that I never spent a New Years in Australia (be it Sydney or Melbourne). It's still on my list of things to do!

Its a good excuse to go back!
